We know that trust is essential in order for Ecosia to thrive. Every stakeholder – from our users to the public, to our partners and even our competitors – must believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that we’re doing what we say we are. That’s why Ecosia publishes financial statements and business reports on a monthly basis to ensure revenue is being used as promised.
Ecosia’s strength lies in its users.
This diverse cross-section of people and their willingness to join us on the arduous quest for grand-scale sustainability is the reason the dream continues to thrive.
It’s a special dynamic that we’re extremely proud of, which is why the wants and needs of Ecosia users remain paramount – right alongside the protection of the rainforest. In fact, we view these two aspects of the business as mutually dependent.Furthermore, not only are we working around the clock to improve and expand our services – we also place great value on informed and effective engagement with our users on the subject of environmental sustainability. We invite you to join the conversation!
Ecosia is proud of its many high-profile partners – but we would also like to reiterate the degree to which Ecosia remains an independent and autonomous entity. This ensures its ability to continually offer neutral services, products and information to the public. It’s the reason we’ve also chosen to decline insoluble partnerships, traditional investments or the sale of Ecosia GmbH.
The Social Business Principle
Despite at least 80% of its revenue going to help sustain the world’s rainforests, Ecosia is not an official non-profit organization – it’s a social business.
That means Ecosia is run like a normal business, so that it stands to compete with the likes of true for-profit companies in the development and communication of innovative products, services and expertise.
Unlike our revenue-driven counterparts, however, our aims are not higher payouts: our goal is to make the largest contribution possible to the protection of the environment via the world's rainforests. All proceeds generated by Ecosia’s products and services are either redirected to rainforest sustainability programs or reinvested in the business.
Along those same lines, we abstain from the practice of speculating on profits, and team members do not earn excessive salaries or wages.
One of the things we value most at Ecosia is the opportunity for exchange. The global sustainability challenges we face today call for innovative ideas that are not only viable on multiple fronts – but also adaptive.
If the one true constant in our world is change, let’s shape it in our favor: please voice your interest in measures for a sustainable future with us. Together as informed and willing organizations, businesses and individuals, we can blaze new trails on the path to true environmental, economic and social sustainability.
